Perhaps you have an idea for a job that doesn't readily exist but one that you'd like to create. Suppose you have a master's degree in history with plenty of experience doing researchsomething you enjoy. If so, write a cold cover letter, describing how you could be an asset to a company by doing research work. You might approach a publishing company or a chamber of commerce with cold cover letters and suggest a position that includes researching the history of a city or company so that a book could be written on that community or organization and made available as a fund-raiser. A cold cover letter is a good vehicle for such an idea.
